FDA Approves Lasik Eye Surgery

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a new custom lasik procedure in September of 2005. This new procedure can now treat many patients who were previously ineligible for the surgery.

Nearsightedness

Nearsightedness occurs when the eye is too long and light rays focus in front of the retina, instead of focusing on the retina. Some of the symptoms of nearsightedness are blurred distant vision, eyestrain, and squinting, along with having a difficult time seeing at night.

Although nearsightedness can be easily fixed with glasses or contact lenses (when not too severe), many people don’t like to hassle with either one. With this new lasik procedure, folks will now be able to have pure vision.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is the effect of the eye being shaped like a football, instead of round like a baseball. This deformity — where the light rays focus on two points on the retina instead of one — results in blurred vision, double vision, and shadows on letters when reading. Until recently, this deformity has prevented some people from even getting contact lenses. Breakthroughs in contact lenses have only helped those with slight astigmatism.

However, with this new lasik procedure, patients can now have their eyes repaired to normal, or at least be repaired enough to comfortably wear contact lenses. Either way, their vision is enhanced and many are happy just to get rid of the glasses and finally be able to wear contacts, or possibly nothing at all.

Farsightedness

Farsightedness happens when light rays focus behind the retina instead of on the retina, resulting in blurred near vision. Some patients with severe farsightedness have to step back from what they are reading and others require magnifying glasses to see something that is right in front of them. People with farsightedness can see you 30 feet away, but when you get right up close they can’t see you! This can be embarrassing and cause the afflicted person much insecurity along with the feeling that they are going blind.

Farsightedness is easily remedied by wearing glasses to read and see things up close, but it’s very inconvenient to constantly be taking your glasses on and off. Not only is it inconvenient, you take the chance of leaving your glasses behind. Some patients keep their glasses on a chain so they won’t lose them, but this makes them feel old. Now, lasik surgery is another option for these patients.

New Laser Technology

The FDA recently approved the new Visx STAR Excimer laser system. This fantastic breakthrough in technology allows doctors to do more than they ever could before, giving them the ability to reshape the eye to correct astigmatism, farsightedness and nearsightedness. Before this marvelous breakthrough these patients were not good candidates for lasik eye surgery. They now can join the rest of the vision impaired and have the option for lasik.

Recent FDA studies show that over 98% of all patients receiving these new procedures were seeing 20/40 or better 6 months after surgery. Over 84% were seeing much better than 20/20 after 6 months. Now that’s reason to celebrate!

New breakthroughs in lasik eye surgery technology are happening all the time. Now people don’t have to be inconvenienced by the hassle of glasses or contacts. All they want to do is to be able to get up in the morning and see normally. These breakthroughs in lasik technology are giving them an improved quality of life that once was unattainable.

Fashion Legend

Ask fashion worshiper’s who their favorite designer is and you are sure to see one name popping up time and time again: Tom Ford … Tom Ford … Tom Ford! To understand the reason Ford is such a fashion icon and the impact this plays in the eyewear and entire fashion industry, it is useful to first look at Tom Ford’s path to being credited as being one of the most influential designers of the last decade.

Ford’s path to fashion legend began when he moved to the New York as a teenager, and enrolled at the NYU in Art History. In 1986 Ford started his career with famous American designer Cathy Hardwick as a part of her creative staff; two years later, he became the Design Director for Perry Ellis. Ford did not stay at Perry Ellis very long before joining Gucci in 1990 as the Women’s Wear Designer and in an unprecedented amount of time Tom Ford climbed the ladder at Gucci and was appointed Gucci’s Creative Director in 1994.

This is where Tom Ford’s true genius showed. Before he began as Creative Director, the company was seeing stagnant sales and was losing market share. In Ford’s first year at the Gucci helm he was credited with putting the glamour back into fashion because of the pioneering fashion trends he introduced, such as the Halston-style velvet hipster’s. By 1999, the house, which had been almost bankrupt when Ford joined, was valued at about $4.3 billion. Gucci bought an interest in Yves Saint Laurent during Ford’s time there, and he was appointed their Creative Director as well. However, in an unexpected turn of events Tom Ford left Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent in 2004 after a disagreement over his contract. Since then Tom Ford has fallen off of the fashion industry’s radar…until now.

Tom Ford now emerges, as he launches a much anticipated sunglasses line. So why did Tom Ford choose sunglasses for his first solo project? When asked he responded “Well as far as accessories go, they’re a personal favorite…” If Tom Ford was going to do sunglasses we new they must be something truly remarkable and boy were we right. The sunglass line is a throw back to decades past, in particular most possess that sexy seventies styling that Tom has so successfully made his own. The frames have an oversized and retro feel and can’t help but remind you of an old Hollywood glamour. The sunglass colors are even reminiscent of the time with unique frame and lens colors such as various shades “Havana” and “Horn”. Even the style names are as evocative of the era as the designs themselves, Farrah and Ryan for example. But there are also frames named after Tom’s loyal assistant Whitney and his long-term partner Richard Buckley of Vogue Homme, that demonstrate the personal level on which this project has been carried out. Tom Ford has also created a number of Aviator sunglasses for Men such as Tom Ford Falconer or Tom Ford Hawking, which are completely distinct from your standard aviators. For example, Tom Ford Falconer is an over-sized aviator whose frame folds into its palm size case.

With Ford’s extensive celebrity following, his sunglasses have been showing up on the red carpet all over Hollywood. Many stores already have a huge backordered waiting list for many of the Tom Ford sunglass models. It appears that Tom Ford is back in the fashion industry, and in a big way, with his new line of sunglasses.

Eyewitness Testimony

The study of eyewitness testimony can be traced back over 100 years. This article outlines how it all began and examines the most commonly researched areas of investigation.

In 1896 Albert Von Schrenk-Notzing testified at the trial of a man accused of murdering three women. Drawing on research into memory and suggestibility he argued that pre-trial publicity meant that witnesses could not distinguish between what they actually saw and what had been reported in the press.

The formal study of eyewitness testimony is usually examined within a framework of cognitive processing, which put simply refers to the different ways in which we make sense of the world around us.

We do this by employing the mental skills at our disposal such as thinking, perception, memory, awareness, reasoning and judgment. Although cognitive processes can only be inferred and cannot be seen directly, they all have very important practical implications within a legal context.

Given that the way we think, perceive, reason and judge can be less than perfect it’s easy to understand why the factors influencing these processes are studied by psychologists’; not least because of the grave implications that this imperfection can have within the criminal justice system. As Huff and Rattner note:

the single most important factor contributing to wrongful conviction is eyewitness misidentification.

Stages of eyewitness memory:

Stage 1: Witnessing the incident.

When witnessing an incident, information about the event is entered into memory, however, research has shown that the accuracy of this initial information acquisition can be influenced by a number of factors.

Take the duration of the event being witnessed for instance. In a very simple experiment conducted by Clifford and Richards(1977), participants are instructed to approach a number of police officers and engage in conversation for either 15 or 30 seconds.

Thirty seconds after the conversation ends, the experimenter asks the police officer to recall details of the person they had just been speaking to using a 10-item checklist. The checklist contains items relating to the persons appearance such as hair colour, facial hair etc. The results of the study showed that in the longer 30 second condition, police were significantly more accurate in their recall.

Stage 2: Waiting period before giving evidence.

This stage is concerned with the period of retention between perception i.e., seeing an incident and the subsequent recollection of that incident. Unsurprisingly, research has consistently found that the longer the gap between witnessing an incident and recalling the incident, the less accurate the recollection of that incident becomes.

There have been numerous experiments, usually related to a staged event, that support this contention. Malpass and Devine (1981), for instance, compared the accuracy of witness identifications after 3 days (short retention period) and 5 months (long retention period). The study found no false identifications after 3 days but after 5 months, 35% of identifications were false.

Stage 3: Giving evidence.

The final stage in the eyewitness memory process relates to the ability of the witness to access and retrieve information from memory. In a legal context, the retrieval of information is usually elicited through a process of questioning and it is for this reason that a great deal of research has investigated the impact of types of questioning on eyewitness memory.

The most substantial body of research has concerned leading questions, which has consistently shown that even very subtle changes in the wording of a question can influence subsequent testimony.

One of the most notable researchers in this field is Elizabeth Loftus who has been investigating eyewitness testimony for over thirty years. In one of her classic studies, participants witnessed a film of a car accident and were asked to estimate the speed of the cars involved. One group of witnesses were asked to estimate the speed of the cars when they contacted each other. A second group of witnesses were asked to estimate the speed of the cars when they smashed each other.

On average the first ‘contacted’ group gave an estimate of 31.8 miles per hour. Whereas, the average speed in the ‘second’ smashed group was 40.8 miles per hour.

Experimental validity:

In any discussion of eyewitness memory, you’ll see the terms, ‘experiment’, ‘participants’ and ‘staged event’ frequently used. This is because the majority of research into eyewitness memory has been conducted within psychology laboratories.

This raises the very important issue of whether it is possible to generalise the findings obtained under these artificial conditions to real life cases.

The simple, if unsatisfactory answer is that it is very difficult to say. Take for instance the work of Yuille and Cutshall, these researchers conducted a case study with witnesses to a real shooting incident, interviewing them just after the event and again 5 months later. They concluded that the performance and accuracy of the witnesses differed in several respects to what would be expected according to the experimental literature.

However, the strength of laboratory based research is that the experimenter is able to exercise a great deal of control over what happens. In the case study reported by Yuille and Cutshall, it was impossible to know the extent to which the witnesses had conferred and how much media coverage of the incident they had seen, and how much influence this had on their testimony.

Can It Really SEE Your Visitors Thought Paterns

This you DO NOT want to miss: The newest report out on “seeing” what people look at when they browse through your site and how they react to certain layouts, headlines, images, and text formats.

Do you really want to know what people see when they visit your site? You think you’re ready for the harsh reality?

The project managers of the EYETRACK III team, Steve Outing and Laura Ruel seem to have done quite a bit of work and I want to thank them for their findings.

So how do we utilize this new found information ? Knowledge is only power, unless it is applied.

Applying Knowledge: Homepage Layout

Quoted From:
http://www.poynterextra.org/eyetrack2004/main.htm

“The eyes most often fixated first in the upper left of the page, then hovered in that area before going left to right. Only after perusing the top portion of the page for some time did their eyes explore further down the page.”

It is mentioned all throughout those articles that the people they tested and had the EyeTracker III track their movements, and they repeatedly looked towards the upper left hand corner first. The logical reason for that would be because many people in the world read left-to-right. Only certain people can read right-to-left.

That would be another explanation why they even tested sites that used their menu on the right and why most of the people tested, seemed to be drawn to the menus on the right.

Pay Attention As To What You Add On The Top Left Hand Corner!

Msn does this so perfectly, here’s what you can find at the top of MSN, MSN Home, My MSN, Hotmail, Web Search, Shopping, Money, People & Chat .

The study shows that with having important links at the top, people will gravitate to those links first. First impressions are huge, even more than most of us consider sometimes.

Things you can add at the top to maximize the space:

– Add a link To Their Favorites button
– Tell a friend link
– Search function
– Company specials

How To Improve Your Content For More Exposure:

If you have information or news that you want read right away, try to implement and position that information near the top. The study shows that by adding a small “caption” of the article, people will generally read the caption more than if there were only a headline to the article.

On the other hand, it doesn’t mean that people will read the entire article more but … You may attract readers to that article that may have just brushed the headline off.

The key to your content is flow:

If you want people to scroll down and view the content that you have near the bottom of the page, make sure that ALL of your content flows towards the bottom. Try not to break it in any way. The more flow you have, the more people will browse down.

Many aspects of web sites functionality is sub-conscious. Implementing more and more tested strategies will increase your chances at a successful and powerful website.

Does mimicking newspaper formats help your content?

Not really, the Eeyetrack III didn’t show a more positive response to websites that did mimic newspapers and their content. In fact, the reaction to the content was approximately the same as any other column online.

“It is very easy to get people to visit your site once, It’s even harder to keep them there and/or get them to come back.” MRL

Can you increase the time spent on your site?

With the EyeTrack system, they also tested “time” factors into their findings. What they found wasn’t too shocking since most humans react the same way when browsing and & learning online.

Our attention span online is very limited, you need to grab their attention right away. If you don’t grab someone’s attention at first glance, they will click away on the spot.

What kind of design layout is the best?

Nothing too flashy seems to be the winner. It was stated that the individuals that were tested with the EYETRACK III didn’t even look at many of the graphics online until the end. People seem to gravitate to text and headlines before they take a look at specials with graphics. This is such a turn around from newspapers and magazines.

So does this prove that content is king? I would think so.

Image & Graphics, can they really work?

Its was stated that, the size of your image/graphics did make a difference. The larger you can go, the better. So it may be wise to make sure that your advertisers within your site, have the largest graphic visible to the eye to gain the most exposure for your advertisers as possible.

If you don’t have advertisers on your site don’t worry. Try to implement large images for your companies services/products and specials. Please also keep in mind that not everyone is on high speed internet or cable. Make sure to test your site for download speeds and keep your download time to a minimal. You don’t want to lose your visitors because it took more than a minute to download one page.

Everything has it’s purpose:

Like mentioned before, internet marketing success is not one thing all the way, it’s 100 little things coming together. Implementing these findings from the EYETRACK III will increase your chances at winning your visitors hearts and getting them to come back time and time again.

Sitting around, reading articles like these and not creating new strategies will bring you the same results you have now. It’s the people who take information like this and really try to implement them on their site that will achieve better results online.

Do yourself a favor, if you haven’t read the EYETRACK III report, take some time out of your schedule to read the report right away.

Eyes On The Dealer On The Table

Most people would consider gambling as a form of recreation and outlet to get their minds off some hard days and seriously inflicting personal hindrances. While most people would have various ways of defining outlets, gambling may not be suitable to all but have done the job amazingly for people who put high premium on pointing towards valued recharging states.

There are people who would hate being left without any recourse when it comes to wanting to get away from it all for the time being. All people have something of interest and it will usually be unique from others. Poker for instance may be what others would turn to while for others, it is just something that could possibly dampen their spirits all the more. The quality of pertaining towards playing poker as a means of outlet would also depend on where and how people would play the game. Of course, either way, it is winning or getting back some monetary rewards in turn that can easily be the motif of enduring in such style of play.

But why should poker being counted among the potential outlets that people would turn to? The thrill of the game? Potential winnings? The list goes on and on and for most people, it is really something that arouses their curiosity as well as their drive towards wanting to be a master and an experienced poker player that is perhaps among the main reasons for them to be doing so.

Poker may be complicated for first timers, but the thing is, people enjoy challenges and the excitement generated by playing this game. Ultimately, many may become dismayed and frustrated, but put altogether, poker is still something that can get the job done. However it depends on why they are playing the game and to what extent the game is being played.

Collecting chips which usually have monetary equivalents is another thing. The funny thing about poker players is that people who lose control do not even get to the point of exchanging these chips to the value that they are really supposed to be. The reason here is that they tend to want more and thus keep on playing until they get more winnings. The usual product from doing so is ending up with nothing and whether they have indeed recharged themselves and gotten over their worries may soon be dumped out the window because they are now more concerned on what they actually lost.

Many people underestimate the beauty of blackjack as a card game. Most gamblers find it a senseless game where its simplicity is something that can be better of invested in more challenging and rewarding games on the casino table. Blackjack may not be the game that gathers all the hoopla that games like craps or poker would solicit, but if looked upon closely, blackjack may be simple but a smart game to begin with to enjoy a game of chance and enjoyment.

This is perhaps something that most people who are new to gambling forget today. For these people, money is the only thing that matters and all else is forgotten. The fun part about gambling takes the focus of wise gambling away from it, leaving people frowning and looking down upon themselves as losers in any game they may be in. Blackjack has been underrated but can really make people winners if only they would give it a chance to do so.

Eye Opening Facts About Stress

You look at the clock. It’s 1 a.m. You’ve been trying to sleep since 11, and you’re still awake. Your mind races. Your muscles are tense. You think you’ll never get any rest. Sound familiar? If so, you are one of 60 million people in the U.S. who suffer from some form of insomnia.

A recent survey by the National Sleep Foundation indicates that 58 percent of adults in America experience insomnia at least a few nights a week. Insomnia increases with age, afflicting approximately 30 percent of men and 40 percent of women.

While insomnia has many causes, many of us can’t sleep because we are simply too stressed out. Stress, a major contributor to all sorts of health issues – from weight gain to heart problems – seems unavoidable in today’s fast-paced world.

We may not be able to eliminate all stress from our lives, but we can minimize it. Here are some strategies:

* Make a list. Organize your next day’s activities into three categories: “To Call,” “To Buy, “To Do.” Attach a specific time to each activity, and rest assured that you won’t wake up to chaos.

* Unwind. Before you go to bed, take a timeout. Read or listen to music as you drink a cup of herbal tea or warm milk. Create a barrier of calm between your jam-packed day and your bedtime.

* Relax your body. We carry stress in our muscles, especially those of the neck and lower back. Stretching exercises can ease the tension. When you get into bed, lie flat your back for a few minutes. Tense and relax each muscle group as you work your way up from your toes to your temples.

* Try a sleep aid. Non-habit-forming aids are easy to find. The spray Insomnia, for example, is a natural alternative to prescriptions. Part of the Spray line of sublingual sprays, Insomnia helps you relax to ease you into a deep sleep. Made with natural ingredients, the spray acts gently and causes no side effects, according to its manufacturer.

eye mask

There are many reasons why people do not get a good night of sleep. Some have a very uncomfortable bed, and they can not rest as they should. Others have problems with outdoor noise, and perhaps a spouse that snores. Some people are just stressed, and that means they simply can not settle enough to get the sleep that they need. Sometimes, however, the reasons are very simple. Some have early light, or street lights, that come in the windows and they can not sleep because of it. When this happens, the answer may be as simple as buying an eye mask.

The sun is a natural alarm clock that some use. However, when your sleeping hours are different than the norm, it can be an unwelcome source of irritation. The eye mask is a great way to keep the light out of the eyes, but you do have to have one that fits over your eyes correctly. You want one that is thick and made of a dark color. It should also fit over the eyes and around the sides well enough so that cracks of light will not leak in while you are sleeping.

The biggest problem with some who try to wear an eye mask is that they can not get used to them. They can be restrictive on the head, and that does take some getting used to. However, after a few nights of it feeling awkward, it won’t bother you a bit. It may irritate a bit in hot weather, but the amount of sleep someone can get will outweigh the few times when discomfort might be an issue. Overall, those who try these to get more sleep love them, and they find they can not sleep without them. If that is the case with you, get a few of them so you know you are never without protection.

There are other types of eye mask that may not help with sleep, but they can help you look better when you are lacking enough sleep. They are often made with a gel that can be put in the freezer. When this type of eye mask is put on the eyes, the coolness with constrict the blood vessels under and around the eyes, and that helps with the elimination of black circles under the eyes. It can also help with a headache at times, though not all types of headache. Both types can usually be found where bath and beauty products are sold.

Eyelid Surgery

A person’s eyes are probably the most eye-catching feature of his or her face. Even if people don’t have the most perfect nose, the smoothest skin, or the most luscious lips, a pair beautiful eyes are more than enough to make up for whatever shortcomings their other facial features have.

The problem is, even the most beautiful of eyes tend to lose whatever radiance they possess when they are surrounded by or swollen with bags. More often than not, tired, droopy or swollen eyes are interpreted as a sign of aging or worse, a really stressful life. You really wouldn’t want people to think you’re living such a troubled life because you can barely sleep, as indicated in the bags surrounding your eyes, would you?

Age is one of the reasons why eyes may seem droopy. As a person ages, many parts of the body droop, and eyelids are no exception. The skin of the upper eyelids will look saggy as the outer parts of the eyebrows droop. Droopy eyelid fat also causes “tired eyes”. Held back by a thin wall of fibrous tissue, this fat sags as a person grows old, thereby giving a person’s upper and lower eyelids that “baggy” look.

If you’re sick and tired of looking in the mirror and seeing a pair of old, baggy and tired-looking eyes staring back at you, then you may have to consider getting help from cosmetic surgeons such as Dr. Philip Miller of New York.

Dr. Miller, considered one of the best cosmetic surgeons in New York, is adept at performing blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery. Eyelid surgery can give a person dramatically younger eyes.

The procedure involves the removal of the upper eyelid skin through fine incisions placed in the upper eyelid creases. Through the same incision, the fat is trimmed. The skin will then be closed with a fine suture. The suture will then be removed after four days.

As for the lower eyelid, an incision on the inside of the eyelid is made so there is no visible scar. Through that same incision, which is considered the safest since it leaves the supporting muscles of the eyelid undisturbed, the lower eyelid fat is removed.

The procedure, when done alone on all four eyelids, can take only about one and a half hours of a patient’s time.

It takes a patient a week to ten days to recover from eyelid surgery. He or she may experience minimal blurry vision, but this problem quickly disappears. The corners of the eyes may show a bit of lumpiness, but all a patient needs are sunglasses, and they can go out in public immediately after surgery. The patient, however, cannot wear make-up until five days after the surgery. Within three weeks, a patient can resume normal activities.

eyeglass frames

Those who don’t wear glasses often don’t think about it, but eyeglass frames are often just as stylish as the clothes that we buy. Glasses have gone through fashion trends just as many times as anything else. They don’t seem to be as versatile as clothing, but the makers of these frames have proven that theory wrong. They come in all sizes, shapes, and colors, and sometimes the trend is to have as little frame as possible. Anyone getting new glasses might be overwhelmed with the choices they have when buying.

My mother had the same eyeglass frames for a very long time, and she said she didn’t realize how dated they were making her look until she broke down and went to buy a new pair. She had always loved the color purple, and hers where made with a hint of purple in the eyeglass frames. She had purchased large frames, as they were the trend when she bought them. Now she has something with less color and a smaller frame.

Most people don’t think about it, but just like my mom, their eyeglass frames may be aging them. Some don’t bother with new ones if their eyes do not change in prescription. They do this in order to save money. However, they end up looking dated, and that ages them. Once they go out and buy new ones they are shocked to see how young they look with a new and updated pair of eyeglass frames. They come in all sizes now. Some like to have the smaller ones because they only use glasses for reading or at night after they have removed their contacts. Others like the larger ones when they wear them all day, and perhaps they need them for their job.

The best thing about newer eyeglass frames, other than the style, is the fact that there are many made for children that are designed to be flexible. Adults can find these frames as well. Most choose the traditional, but some have a habit of leaving their glasses lying around where they could be easily broken. Children often break things, glasses included. Having flexible frames is a great idea for them. Some children’s frames even come in fun colors and some even have favored childhood characters on them. You should allow them to choose their own, but there are some that might not be good. Let them browse, but give them a few from which to choose that you both can live with every day.

bad vision

You may never have to have any type of vision correction, and if that is the case for you, you are indeed lucky. If you do have problems with your vision, it is important that you take the time to get this taken care of as soon as you can. If you let your bad vision go, it can get dramatically worse. If you have the corrective eyewear you need, you can help keep your eyes healthier, and you won’t have to worry about things you can see, like road signs or even cars coming when you want to cross the street. While glasses work well, some also like to have contacts. You do have to care more for an eye contact, but they are worth the bother for most.

When you get a prescription for glasses, it generally is good for about three years. That means you may not have to go back in that time frame to have your vision checked. However, if you choose the eye contact, you will have to have them checked once a year. Not only is the prescription for the eye contact more precise, it is also more likely to change. Most eye doctors want to see you that often anyway, to be sure you are caring for your eyes as you should.

You will find that there are more things that can go wrong with your eyes if you use the eye contact each day. There are some that are disposable, but most people have some that are used for a week, two weeks, or a month. That means more care is involved, and more is at stake with the eyes. It is easy to get lazy. That sometimes results in an eye infection, and that could mean long term consequences for your vision. If you follow all instructions and are careful, you can keep your eyes very healthy, but you still want to go in once a year to be on the safe side.

You can order your eye contact sets from your eye doctor, or you can get them online. You should never buy these from anyone who does not have a good reputation. If you have never heard of them, move on. The eye contact is in direct contact with your eyeball and your body fluids. It is very easy to harm your eyes or get an infection if you were to get contacts that might not be sterile, or that might be old. There are times to save money, and then there are times when you want to be sure you are safe. In this case, safety should always be your very first priority.

Eye Care Specialist Tips

Public misunderstanding of the specific function of eye doctors is widespread. Other health experts such as the nurse can clarify their roles and direct individuals intelligently for proper care.

The importance of adequate eye examination cannot be emphasized too strongly. Too often, most people find patients using a pair of glasses that belong to a relative, or using one that was purchased at the local variety store.

The care of the eye is undertaken by four groups of eye specialists:

1. The oculist

The oculist, the ophthalmologist, or the ophthalmic physician is a medical doctor who is skilled in the treatment of all conditions and diseases of the eye. Because of training and experience, he is able to make a more thorough and complete examination of the eye for refractive errors and other changes.

2. The optician

The optician, not a physician, whose concern is to grind, mount, and dispense lenses.

3. The optometrist

The optometrist, who is licensed to examine for refractive errors in the eye by mechanical means and to provide appropriate corrective lenses, is not a physician, and he does not use drugs in the examination of the eyes.

4. The ocularist

The ocularist is a technician who makes artificial eyes and other prostheses used in ophthalmology.

Among these four eye specialists, the ophthalmologist is the one considered fit to be called as the ultimate eye doctor. Ophthalmologists have finished “medical school” and board on a usual schooling schedule that usually takes 3 years after taking medicine proper in nearly all countries.

How to Choose an Ophthalmologist

Even if eye doctors or ophthalmologists may seem professional enough to perform any surgical operations concerning the eyes or at least examine the eyes for any problems, it is still important to know how to choose the best eye doctor.

Here are some of the factors that you must consider when choosing the best eye doctor:

1. Skills and expertise

A good eye doctor is usually defined by the way his skills and expertise are shown on his credentials such as diploma and license certificates.

Hence, it is important to verify that your eye doctor has the correct and sufficient education to analyze, make a diagnosis, cure, and administer some medications and surgical operations to cure eye diseases. These documents will assist you in analyzing the efficiency of your eye doctor to perform such service.

Be wary of people performing such duties and responsibilities that only licensed eye doctors are allowed to carry out. Consulting them may only produce more harm than good.

Certifications denoting passed board examinations indicate quality and reliable services. Any documents that will serve as evidences of these things must be properly displayed within the office of the eye doctor and must be noticeably identified.

2. Adequate practice and knowledge

Any eye doctor with adequate practices denotes specialization and expertise on his chosen field. This goes to show that a new board passer, even if he is on the top list, is still no match for an eye doctor who has already gained 20 years of experience brought about by constant practice of his profession.

Besides, well-experienced eye doctors could also mean they have attended several seminars and additional trainings regarding the newest methods of vision correction.

3. Most referred

It is always safe to consult an eye doctor who has been referred to you by a relative or a close friend. Their experiences will always tell you how the eye doctor has been efficient in carrying out his job.

Because the eye is such a vital part of the body, it is important to choose only the best and the most efficient eye doctor to perform the protection and proper care for the eye.

Eyebrow Regrowth

There are some women who are born with brows to die for, but many of us have to do a little work to keep them looking great. Many have a great natural shape, but they need a little work. I have very thick brows, so for me the ideal thing to do is to go in once every few weeks to get them waxed. Though I should probably do this once a week I just don’t have the time to do so. That means that in between visits I have to worry about eyebrow regrowth in order to keep things for getting to bushy up there.

There are a few common areas where eyebrow regrowth can cause you problems. All you need is tweezers to take care of things as they come in. You have to watch for eyebrow regrowth between your brows above your nose, along the bottom of your brow, and along the side of your outer eye were it might have grown back out after waxing. You can use your tweezers to pull these hairs out while you wait for your next appointment.

You can wax your eyebrows at home if you want to, but you may find that you have eyebrow regrowth coming back much faster than you would if you go to a salon to get your waxing done. This is because the stuff you can buy in the store is inferior to the wax they use in a salon, and it just doesn’t work as well. You may be tweezing the same day you wax because it missed a lot. It also missed the smaller hairs that may be hiding out, and you will have eyebrow regrowth in a matter of a few hours in some cases, but it does depend on how fast your hair grows.

You should take care of your eyebrow regrowth even if it doesn’t look bad. Some hairs grow in very fine, and they may not be very visible. They do, however, affect your makeup. When you have fine hairs below your brow the make up won’t adhere to your skin as it should, and you will find it wears off too fast. If you take care of this fine eyebrow regrowth in between visits, you won’t have to worry about this problem. It is almost impossible to have your brows stay perfect in between visits with doing a little extra work yourself, but if you just take a few seconds each morning to pluck stray hairs you should be ok.

Eye And Heart Disease

Eye disease is very common with Golden Retrievers. Most Golden’s will generally have hereditary cataracts, which is a common eye problem. At an early age, with affected Golden’s, one type of hereditary cataract will appear. Even though it may not cause interference with the vision of the Golden Retriever, some dogs will progress into total and quite possibly severe loss of vision.

Sometimes, Golden Retrievers can get affected by non hereditary cataracts, although an examination by a board certified veterinarian can determine just how bad the cataracts really are. If cataracts are indeed suspected with a Golden Retriever, then breeding won’t be recommended. Breeding a Golden who has this condition can lead to serious problems, such as passing it on to the pups.

Several families of the Golden Retriever breed have been known to carry genes for CPRA (Central Progressive Retinal Atrophy), which affects the retina, and can result in permanent blindness for Golden’s at a young age. There are other types of eye defects as well, such as retinal dysplasia, which prevents a Golden from breeding.

Trouble with both the eyelid and eyelashes are also a possibility with Golden Retrievers, with some being the result of hereditary factors. The eyelids rotating in or out, or the eyelashes rubbing on or in the eye are both common problems with the breed. Even though surgery can help to fix these types of problems, dogs that are experiencing this type of problem shouldn’t be allowed to breed nor compete in shows under any type of AKC rules.

You should always have your Golden Retriever checked annually for eye disease, as it can develop during any age. When you take your Golden to have him examined for eye disease, you should have a veterinary ophthalmologist do the exam. He has all of the necessary equipment, and the proper training needed to make sure that your dog gets the best examination possible.

Heart disease
SAS (Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis) is the most common and widespread form of heart disease within the entire Golden Retriever species. Before you breed your Golden Retriever, you should always have him examined for heart disease by a certified veterinary cardiologist. If the cardiologist detects a heart murmur, he will recommend additional tests for your dog.

In the event that the results prove negative, it doesn’t necessarily rule heart disease out, as some milder forms may still be present, although undetectable. If a Golden Retriever is diagnosed to have any type of heart disease, he should not breed. Breeding Golden Retrievers who have heart disease can lead to serious and sometimes fatal results. To be on the safe side, you should always have your Golden tested for his disease before you plan on breeding.

Eye Tricks

Eye tricks? What can you do with your eyes? More on that in a moment. First, let’s look at what you can tell by watching a persons eyes.

By watching what they are watching, you can learn a lot about people. What kind of women does a man look at? Does he pay any attention to the game on the TV? Note whether he seems bored or interested as he looks at different things.

Eye watching tricks – part two. You can tell what people’s minds are doing when they are thinking or asked to remember something, according to neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) practitioners. This following is true for most right handed people (reverse all this for left-handed people): As you face them, and their eyes go…

Up and to the right – They are remembering a visual image.

Up and to the left – They are constructing a visual image.

To the right – They are remembering sounds or conversation.

To the left – The are constructing sounds or conversations.

Down and to the right – They are in an internal dialog.

Down and to the left – They are accessing kinesthetic feelings, tastes and smells.

Eye Tricks And The Opposite Sex

A persons pupils get bigger when they are aroused, interested and/or receptive. If you look into his or her eyes and see those pupils growing large – it’s looking good for you. Basically big pupils (unless it’s just dark) mean a person likes what they see.

It isn’t just what you see, though, but what you imagine too. Try an experiment to understand how immediate this effect can be. Go right now and look in the mirror at your own eyes. As you look at them, imagine a sexy man or woman you are attracted to – in whatever way would turn you on.

You’ll see that your pupils get bigger in just seconds. Actually, if you love to fish, they may get big just thinking about a lake you love. Imagining anything you like to look at can make your pupils bigger.

You’ll find that you can quickly train yourself to change your pupil size at will. Just find a mental image or two that gets them really big, and use these as necessary. Look at a light briefly when you want to shrink your pupils back down. Now, how do you use this eye trick?

First, understand that we all unconsciously use little clues like pupil size as we interact with people. We are affected by people’s body language even when we haven’t yet learned to identify it. There are reasons why we are attracted to a person, even when we don’t know what those reasons are.

In other words – the person in front of you will unconsciously pick upon your enlarging pupils. They will unconsciously take this to mean that you like them, and for many people, this will make them like you more. By enlarging your pupils at will, you can effectively establish rapport more quickly. This is one of the easier subliminal eye tricks.

Eye Surgery Providers

TLC Laser Eye Centers is a premier provider of LASIK and other refractive surgery procedures. The group boasts highly experienced doctors, thorough pre-operative examinations, and personalized care for each of its patients. It also has over 13,000 affiliated eyecare practitioners. TLC Laser Eye Centers does not offer quick assessments or overblown promises. Instead, it provides a long-term commitment for future surgical enhancements.

As a token of its genuineness, TLC offers a lifetime commitment program. Patients suffering from myopia may be eligible for this offer. According to this offer, if ever a patient requires enhancement surgery in order to maintain distance vision acuity, the enhancement surgery shall be performed without charge.

LASIK is by far the most preferred refractive surgery. However, the surgical procedure can often be expensive or even unaffordable for some people. TLC Laser Eye Centers have made an immense contribution to bring this surgery option to the masses. TLC offers variety of ways to pay for LASIK, and hence have eased out the whole procedure and have managed to make the procedure affordable for every patient. To be specific, TLC offers financing options, medical and vision plans, and flexible spending options for its patients.

The TLC Laser Eye Centers website also provides a whole repertoire of features. It might be the case that you are uncertain as to whether you should go for LASIK or not. TLC website provides a feature where you can easily check whether you are a potential LASIK candidate or not. The website also provides a detailed description of the LASIK procedure so as to dispel any doubts that you might have had regarding LASIK.

In summary, TLC Laser Eye Centers offers scads of information and support for informed decision making. LASIK is a safe and efficacious procedure, but it’s still a surgery, and any sort of advice in such a matter is always handy.

Eye Surgery

Eye Surgery has become a mainstream method of vision correction, and this article will explain the advantages and disadvantages of three different methods being offered to the medical consumer.

Lasik Eye Surgery

LASIK is the acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis and is an eye surgical system which permanently corrects vision by removing a thin layer of the cornea. This procedure works best on patients with moderate to high degrees of myopia (nearsightedness), low to moderate degrees of hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism associated with myopia, and who have thick corneas. It is the most well-known surgical vision correction method.

People with normal eye sight see objects clearly because images are brought into a correct focal point by the cornea and lens of the eye. Ideally, the cornea’s curvature is evenly matched to its length in a normal eye. People with astigmatism, myopia or hyperopia have irregularly shaped corneas, so the objects seen are not focused properly. LASIK changes corneal shape by precise removal of corneal tissue, and by doing so corrects the eyes’ focusing power.

There are, however, risks to LASIK eye surgery.

There is a remote chance of complete loss of vision. If this happens, it is usually because the patient had a pre-existing condition which should have precluded the surgery in the first place, such as pregnancy, cataracts, arthritis, diabetes, glaucoma, or lupus. People with large pupils are also poor candidates for LASIK. Dry eye syndrome will be aggravated by this procedure.

A few patients complain that they permanently see “ghost” images, have blurred vision, diminished contrast and bad night vision. When LASIK was first introduced, 5% of patients had post-operative complaints; however, refinements in the procedure have caused this rate to drop to less than 1% if LASIK is performed by skilled practitioners and patients are properly screened prior to surgery. If problems do occur, they can often be resoved by a retreatment.

FDA has approved LASIK laser eye surgery since 1998. While there are a lot of satisfied patients, there are however no long term studies about its effects. Realize the limitations and the risks of LASIK eye surgery before you sigh up for the procedure.

Intacs

Though less well known, these small implants can improve vision in patients with mild to moderate myopia without the risk of permanent eye damage inherent in the tissue removal technique of LASIK. Intacs are semi-circular disks implanted in the cornea which stretch it to assume a flatter shape. Though slightly less precise than LASIK, they are removeable and replaceable, so if the patient has an unexpected over- or under-correction, the implant can be removed and another of a different size inserted to obtain the desired correction. The implants are located at the edge of the cornea, so the central visual area is completely intact and undamaged, and the strength of the cornea is undiminished, making it a better option for pilots and those who engage in contact sports where eye injury is a possibility.

Intacs are unsuitable for severe myopia and more than minor astigmatism (1.00 diopters), as the cornea can only be stretched so far. If the Intacs are removed, vision returns to its preoperative level. Aside from vision correction, Intacs are also used to treat keratoconus.

Intacs are FDA approved and 10 year studies have revealed no major problems with Intacs and very few patient complaints; however, because the procedure takes more training than LASIK, there are fewer eye surgery clinics offering it. However, the Intacs website gives a list of practitioners in each state, as well a few in Canada, Europe and Mexico.

Implants

Because many people do not want to risk LASIK and Intacs cannot help those with severe vision problems, intraocular lens implants (IOL) are a new option approved by the FDA in 2004 to correct moderate to severe nearsightedness. The Artisan lens, manufactured by Ophtec, is similar to the type of lens implant utilized to restore vision following cataract eye surgery.

The new IOL, called the Artisan, is intended for only patients who have 2.5 diopters or less of astigmatism.

The artificial lens does not replace the natural lens, but is inserted in front of it. The main problem found with the implant was the steady loss of endothelial cells in the corneas of patients who received the implants. The endothelium is a layer of cells that line the undersurface of the cornea and are essential in keeping the cornea clear. A three-year study showed a continual steady loss of endothelial cells of 1.8 percent a year. At this point, no one can predict whether this loss will proceed at the same rate indefinitely, or even its impact on corneal function.

To minimize long-term effects of the device on the corneal endothelium, the FDA is requiring that the new lenses be labelled to specify that they should only be implanted in patients whose corneal endothelial cells are thick enough to withstand minor cell loss.

More serious complications were few: retinal detachment (0.6%), cataract development (0.6%), and corneal swelling (0.4%). The FDA is requiring Ophtec to conduct a five-year follow-up survey of its implant patients to better assess the post-surgical incidence of cataract development, retinal detachment and other ophthalmic diseases.

The Artisan lens is intended to be a permanent implant.Though it can be removed surgically, vision may not always return to what it was prior to getting the lens. Because it does not affect astigmatism, patients with this problem might still require glasses.

Eye Protective Selection Is Important In The Workplace

Personal protective equipment for the eyes and face is designed to prevent or lessen the severity of injuries to workers. The employer must assess the workplace and determine if hazards that require the use of eye and/or face protection are present or are likely to be present before assigning a certain type of personal protective equipment to workers.

A hazard assessment should determine the risk of exposure to eye and face hazards, including those which may be encountered in an emergency. Employers should be aware of the possibility of multiple and simultaneous hazard exposures and be prepared to protect against the highest level of each hazard.

Hazards can fall into five categories:
Impact (Flying objects such as large chips, fragments, particles, sand, and dirt. Produced by chipping, grinding, machining, masonry work, wood working, sawing, drilling, chiseling, powered fastening, riveting, and sanding.)
Heat (Anything emitting extreme heat. Produced by furnace operations, pouring, casting, hot dipping, and welding.)
Chemicals (Splash, fumes, vapors, and irritating mists. Produced by acid and chemical handling, degreasing, plating, and working with blood.)
Dust (Harmful Dust. Produced by woodworking, buffing, and general dusty conditions.)
Optical Radiation (Radiant energy, glare, and intense light Produced by welding, torch-cutting, brazing, soldering, and laser work.)

The majority of impact injuries result from flying or falling objects, or sparks striking the eye. Most of these objects are smaller than a pin head and can cause serious injury such as punctures, abrasions, and contusions.

While working in a hazardous area where the worker is exposed to flying objects, fragments, and particles, primary protective devices such as safety spectacles with side shields or goggles must be worn. Secondary protective devices such as face shields are required in conjunction with primary protective devices during severe exposure to impact hazards. Personal protective equipment examples are:
Spectacles – Primary protectors intended to shield the eyes from a variety of impact hazards.
Goggles – Primary protectors intended to shield the eyes against flying fragments, objects, large chips, and particles.
Face Shields – Secondary protectors intended to protect the entire face against exposure to impact hazards.

Heat injuries may occur to the eye and face when workers are exposed to high temperatures, splashes of molten metal, or hot sparks. Protect your eyes from heat when workplace operations involve pouring, casting, hot dipping, furnace operations, and other similar activities. Burns to eye and face tissue are the main concern when working with heat hazards.

Working with heat hazards requires eye protection such as goggles or safety spectacles with special-purpose lenses and side shields. However, many heat hazard exposures require the use of a face shield in addition to safety spectacles or goggles. When selecting PPE, consider the source and intensity of the heat and the type of splashes that may occur in the workplace. Personal protective equipment examples are:

Spectacles – Primary protectors intended to shield the eyes from a variety of heat hazards.
Goggles – Primary protectors intended to shield the eyes against a variety of heat hazards.
Face Shields – Secondary protectors intended to shield the entire face against exposure to high temperatures, splash from molten metal, and hot sparks.

A large percentage of eye injuries are caused by direct contact with chemicals. These injuries often result from an inappropriate choice of personal protective equipment, that allows a chemical substance to enter from around or under protective eye equipment. Serious and irreversible damage can occur when chemical substances contact the eyes in the form of splash, mists, vapors, or fumes. When working with or around chemicals, it is important to know the location of emergency eyewash stations and how to access them with restricted vision.

When fitted and worn correctly, goggles protect your eyes from hazardous substances. A face shield may be required in areas where workers are exposed to severe chemical hazards.
Goggles – Primary protectors intended to shield the eyes against liquid or chemical splash, irritating mists, vapors, and fumes.
Face Shields – Secondary protectors intended to protect the entire face against exposure to chemical hazards.

Dust is present in the workplace during operations such as woodworking and buffing. Working in a dusty environment can causes eye injuries and presents additional hazards to contact lens wearers.

Either eyecup or cover-type safety goggles should be worn when dust is present. Safety goggles are the only effective type of eye protection from nuisance dust because they create a protective seal around the eyes.
Goggles – Primary protectors intended to protect the eyes against a variety of airborne particles and harmful dust.

Laser work and similar operations create intense concentrations of heat, ultraviolet, infrared, and reflected light radiation. A laser beam, of sufficient power, can produce intensities greater than those experienced when looking directly at the sun. Unprotected laser exposure may result in eye injuries including retinal burns, cataracts, and permanent blindness. When lasers produce invisible ultraviolet, or other radiation, both employees and visitors should use appropriate eye protection at all times.

Determine the maximum power density, or intensity, lasers produce when workers are exposed to laser beams. Based on this knowledge, select lenses that protect against the maximum intensity. The selection of laser protection should depend upon the lasers in use and the operating conditions. Workers with exposure to laser beams must be furnished suitable laser protection.

When selecting filter lenses, begin with a shade too dark to see the welding zone. Then try lighter shades until one allows a sufficient view of the welding zone without going below the minimum protective shade.

Hazards should be addressed and appropriate measures be taken. In many cases hazards can compile, personal protective equipment must be selected to protect all personnel in the workplace. Personal protective equipment should be viewed as a last resort when all other attempts at hazard control have failed.

Eye Protection

A quick-thinking tournament doctor put in a call to an ophthalmologist following the gruesome collision between Villanova’s Allan Ray and a Pittsburgh player, and that call may have saved Ray’s sight. The collision occurred during the March 10 Big East tournament game.

“This young man is very fortunate, as he could have suffered a permanent, basketball-career-ending injury,” said John Stechschulte, M.D., Assistant Clinical Professor, Ohio State University and American Academy of Ophthalmology member.

Ophthalmologists agree that many sports eye injuries could be avoided simply by wearing protective eyewear. Athletes can now choose from various types of sturdy, lightweight and effective eyewear. With polycarbonate lenses and a proper fitting by an eye care professional, eyewear does not hinder performance and can prevent 90 percent of sports eye injuries. However, various sports require different types of protective eyewear, and members of the eye health care team can help athletes choose the eyewear appropriate for their sport.

“Fortunately, our nation’s ophthalmologists, as demonstrated by the Eye M.D. who saved the player’s sight, have the skills and the training to treat patients to minimize the amount of permanent vision loss-or get the athlete back on the playing field,” said Dr. Stechschulte. “Prevention could be the most important step in preserving eyesight and keeping athletes in the game.”

Todd Baker, Executive Director of the Ohio State Ophthalmological Society and Director of Ohio’s “Play Hard. Don’t Blink” Program, adds, “We have been working with little league and softball teams for the last five years to make eye protection part of their standard equipment requirement and will be doing the same with youth basketball teams this year. We need to move toward making protective eyewear part of the sports culture, rather than waiting for cases of serious injuries to impact our habits.”

The Academy is the world’s largest association of eye physicians and surgeons-Eye M.D.s-with more than 27,000 members worldwide. Eye health care is provided by the three “O’s”-opticians, optometrists and ophthalmologists. It is the ophthalmologist, or Eye M.D., who can treat it all-eye diseases and injuries-and perform eye surgery.

Eye Makeup Tips

In this article we take a look at how to apply eyeliner with some tips on achieving some great effects.

One stunning effect that can be achieved easily and a favorite of such well-known actresses from Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe to Gwyneth Paltrow, is rimming the eyes with either a white or beige eye pencil. This has the effect of enlarging the white of the eye to create a seductive, alluring look.

To apply the eye pencil, pull your lid away from the eye very gently using one or two fingers and draw a line along the inner eye rims. Do the same with both the upper and lower lids. To make a sharpened pencil softer and easier to apply, you can draw a few lines first on the back of your hand. This will soften the tip and get the color flowing.

Kohl can be applied in the same way with sensational effect. The use of kohl goes back to ancient Egyptian times and is characteristic of eye makeup in the Middle and Far East. Apply your kohl pencil as described above to both the upper and lower rims, from corner to corner. Then, using either a sponge-tipped applicator, eyeshadow brush, or even your fingertip, blend the color by smudging it to create a smoky effect.

Once you are satisfied with the appearance, you will need to set it by using a light application of loose powder. For an even stronger, more intense effect, apply your preferred color around the eyes in either cream, liquid or powder form.

If you want to use liquid eyeliner, once you’ve mastered the technique of applying it, this can be a quick method of achieving a stunning and sophisticated look. But applying liquid eyeliner can take a little practice.

To begin, it’s best to be in front of a good magnifying mirror, so that your eyes are magnified sufficiently to see very clearly what you are about to do and ensure a smooth application of the liquid eyeliner. Then, using your free hand, start by pulling the eyelid taut. If you’re right-handed it’s probably easiest for you to start applying the liquid from left-to-right, as if you are writing, and vice versa if you are left-handed. Draw across in a single continuous fine line. If you want a thicker line then, at the end of the run, simply retrace.

A tip when applying liquid eyeliner is to apply it as close as possible to the eyelashes, even running into the eyelashes. This will avoid you getting that annoying white line effect between the lashes and the liner when the two don’t meet.

Applying liquid eyeliner does take some practice, so have a bottle of makeup remover to hand until you are confident in the technique. As they say: “practice makes perfect”, and with a little perseverance and a steady hand you’ll soon be achieving some great effects.

Eye Makeup Tips and Advice

Eyes occupy the most prominent place among the five sensory organs of our body. Large and beautiful eyes enhance one’s beauty manifold. Healthy eyes are directly related to general health. Use eye-make up very sparingly, for its excessive use damages the skin around eye. Also, remember never to use chemical eye-make-up-remover because it reacts adversely on the skin. Applying smoky eyes makeup can make you the most attractive and beautiful woman. It is a good choice for drawing attention, also.

A very important thing to take into account is the eye shadow color. Being very careful, smoky eyes are not so difficult to obtain. An advantage of this kind of makeup is that it fits any face type. Start applying the smoky eyes makeup, First, apply a perfect eyeliner and the base eye shadow over the upper lid, blending with a base brush. The next step is to apply a clean color over the eye, from eyelid to brow.

Eye makeup is the fun part of applying cosmetics. Some simple eye makeup tips. Use eye shadows that fit the character or to express mood. Apply the lightest shade you have over the entire eyelid and the medium shade on the lower eyelid. It’s time to apply dark colors for creating depth. Best place for doing that is the outer corner. Next, apply a little eyeliner, from the center of the eye to the corners. Finally, apply mascara. For dark eyes, black or dark brown is recommended. A dark brown eye shadow should be applied from the lid to crease, for a better effect. In the final, apply two layers of black mascara and work a little on your eyebrows for a strong smoky eyes makeup.

Various Types of Eye Makeup

Small eyes-Use a light shade of powder for the center of the lid and a darker shade in the outer edge.

Almond-shaped eyes Use a light shade of powder from your lashes to the brow, a medium shade on your lid, and a darker shade on the outer third of your eyelid.

Round eyes-Use light colored shadow over the entire lid and a darker shade in the crease. Apply eyeliner on both the top and bottom lids, and use mascara on the upper outer lashes.

Wide-set eyes-Use a darker shade in the inner corner, blending up and out. Concentrate eyeliner and mascara on the inner corner of the eye.

Close-set eyes-Use one color, varying from a light to darker shade. Start with the lightest shade one-third away from the inner corner of your eye, blending darker shades up and out. Use eyeliner on the outer half of your eye.

Deep-set eyes-Use eyeliner on both the upper and lower lids, remembering to smudge and soften the line.

8. Do not wear bold eye makeup and a bold lipstick at the same time.

9. Try not to be too dramatic but there is a secret seldom revealed.

Follow these helpful tips to greatly improve your makeup experience.

Eye Makeup After Lasik

LASIK, or “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis,” is the most common refractive surgery procedure. Refractive surgeries, including LASIK, reshape the cornea to correct distorted vision often eliminating the need for glasses or contacts.

Higher-order aberrations are visual problems not captured in a traditional eye exam. In a young healthy eye, the level of higher-order aberrations are typically low and insignificant. Concern has long plagued the tendency of refractive surgeries to induce higher-order aberration not correctible by traditional contacts or glasses. The advancement of lasik technique and technologies has helped eliminate the risk of clinically significant visual impairment after the surgery.

The following are some of the more frequently reported complications of LASIK:

1. Dry eyes
2. Overcorrection or undercorrection
3. Visual acuity fluctuation
4. Halos or starbursts around light sources at night
5. Light sensitivity
6. Ghosts or double vision
7. Wrinkles in flap (striae)
8. Decentered ablation

How Soon Can I Use Eye Makeup?
You may resume wearing eye makeup starting 1-2 weeks after your treatment. We strongly recommend that you purchase new eye makeup, specifically mascara, to avoid potential infection following your treatment.

The most important thing for anyone considering LASIK surgery is to determine if they are a good candidate. Finding a surgeon who will honestly assess compatibility is extremely important, and vastly preferable to a provider who does not do a careful examination, and thus risks serious side effects.

LASIK is an outpatient surgical procedure and will take 10 to 15 minutes for each eye.

The only anesthetic used is an eye drop that numbs the surface of the eye. The procedure is done with the person awake. LASIK may be done on one or both eyes during the same session.

During LASIK, a special knife (a microkeratome) is used to cut a hinged flap of corneal tissue off the outer layer of the eyeball. The flap is lifted out of the way and a special laser is used to reshape the underlying corneal tissue.

Eye Health And Extended Wear Contact Lenses

An ever growing number of people who wear contact lenses are turning to using extended wear contact lenses. There are many benefits to be realized through the use of extended wear contact lenses. Perhaps the greatest benefit to be realized from the use extended wear contact lenses is found in the fact that they are very, very convenient. In reality, if a person so desired, he or she could “plop” a pair of extended wear contact lenses into his or her eyes and basically forget about them for thirty days.

In reality, a person who elects to use extended wear contact lenses needs to be a bit more at attentive to his or her eyes. In point of fact, merely “plopping” lenses into one’s eyes and then forgetting about them for several weeks really is not the best of all possible practices.

Many eye doctors actually recommend removing even extended wear lenses from a person’s eyes on a daily basis for cleaning. Even with extended wear lenses, dirt and debris accumulate on the lenses in a very short period of time. Despite the fact that extended wear lenses are designed to remain in place for longer periods of time, this does not mean that dirt and debris accumulation will not occur at least on some level.

A good number of extended wear contact lens users actually report greater eye comfort when they do remove their lenses for cleaning on a daily basis. (Some consumers report that that are able to use a specific pair of extended wear contact lenses for an … extended … period of time through a routine that include daily cleaning of the lenses.

Some eye doctors are a bit more drastic in their recommendations regarding extended wear lenses. These docs contend that even extended wear lenses should not be work when a person intends to sleep for more than several hours. In other words, these eye doctors literally are suggesting and recommending that extended wear lenses should removed each and every night — which, of course, rather defeats the purpose of using extended wear lenses in the first instance.

In the final analysis, when it comes to more traditional or extended wear lenses, it is important to consult with a qualified eye doctor to determine what type of lens will best suit your particular needs. No matter what type of contact lens you elect to utilize, you will need to make sure that you have regular eye examinations and that you maintain your lenses properly through cleaning on a regular basis.

Boost The Power of Your Optic Muscles

The eyes contain many small muscles, and there is no doubt that eye exercises can do little harm to your eyes, but can they actually be of benefit?

A New York ophthalmologist called Dr William Bates, developed a series of eye exercises to improve eyesight without resorting to lenses or surgery. Dr Bates felt that many eye problems had their root causes in stress, tension and laziness of the eye and he thought that because of these causes, the eyes could be treated without correction such as lenses, spectacles or even surgery. Dr Bates’ methods were first devised at the beginning of the 20th century, but many people still practice them today.

Dr Bates’ theory revolved around the notion that the muscles of the eye became fixed on a scene causing strain to the eyes. Dr Bates felt that the eyes could be re-trained to relax and improve the link between the optic nerves and the brain.

Dr Bates’ theories have been largely ignored by the world of medicine. However, many people around the world have claimed remarkable improvements in short sight, long sight, astigmatism, squints and lazy eyes using these methods. Even young children are able to practice the exercises and people with normal vision may improve concentration, reading skills and co-ordination by following the routines suggested by Dr Bates.

In essence, you can expect to perform some simple exercises for about half an hour a day. These can involve some of the following:-

• ‘Palming.’
To rest and relax your eyes, sit comfortably in front of a table, resting your elbows on a stack of cushions high enough to bring your palms easily to your eyes without stooping forward or looking up. Close your eyes and cover them with your cupped palms to exclude light, avoiding pressure on the sockets. Breathe slowly and evenly, relaxing and imagining deep blackness. Begin by doing this for 10 minutes, two or three times a day.

• ‘Swinging.’
Relax and keep the eyes mobile. Stand up and focus on a distant point, swaying gently from side to side. Repeat 100 times daily, blinking as you sway. Blinking cleans and lubricates the eyes, which is especially important if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer.

• You may be asked to have a ‘colour day.’ Choose a colour and look out for it throughout the day. When you see it, be aware of the colour rather than the form. For example, if it’s a red truck, experience the shade of red, not the truck.

Why not try some of these exercises yourself?

See Clearly Method
==================

The See Clearly Method is another popular series of exercises and training to help with vision correction. Similarly to the Bates’ method, you are required to do 30 minutes of eye exercises a day to strengthen and enhance the flexibility of the eye’s muscles. This would usually involve making the eye change it’s focus from near to far for example. One simple way of doing this would be to hold a small object in your hand and slowly move it away from your face, ensuring that your eye follows the object and retains focus upon it.

One exercise which is know as “tromboning” has you hold a small object again, starting at arm’s length. Then you need to breath in and move the object slowly closer to your face, until it touches your nose. You are then required to breath out, looking at the object as you again move it away from your face. Hence the notion of “Tromboning”.

The See Clearly Method also employs a number of techniques which are aimed at accelerating progress or improvement. For example, there is a technique referred to as the “blur reading” technique, which asks you to turn a magazine upside-down at a distance where the words are not distinct. Then, you are supposed to choose one word and focus your attention around it, to see if you can identify any of the letters.

As with the Bates’ Method, the eye exercises suggested in the See Clearly Method are certainly worthy of a go to see if they help you at all.

Eye Cream

Does eye cream really work? While we cannot say for every brand out there, but what we do know is that many do, in fact they help you lose those crows feet and help provide you with more skin tone that you can be proud of. What most people do not know, though, is that eye cream works because of what is inside of it being as natural as you will find. The products that defy age work because they are filled with great quality ingredients that would make anything do well.

So, what magical product is inside an eye cream that makes it work so well? It is not the ingredient per say but the vitamins that are in it instead. For example, those ingredients that are full of natural antioxidants are full of all the good stuff our bodies need. Many eye cream products are full of just that – antioxidants. These vitamins are super tough. They can help clean out your arteries and help you to fight disease as well as just helping to keep your skin healthy looking. In fact, many antioxidants are able to help rejuvenate various types of elements within the body including the eyes and skin. So, antioxidants that are in eye cream can, in fact, help to improve your look.

When you are out and about looking for the eye cream that you will use, flip it over and find out which natural ingredients are in the product. If you cannot tell, you’ll want to look for those products that have a lot of vitamins especially your vitamin E’s. These are full of the antioxidants that your body needs anyway. A hint here; foods that are rich in antioxidants are usually very brightly colored greens, oranges, and other bright or dark colors. These are foods that you want to include in your diet anyway. Eye cream with antioxidants is just what you need.

Eye Catching Poster Printing

Whether you are advertising a small theater production in your town or promoting a multi million product, there is nothing quite like a big glitzy poster to deliver what you want to say. Poster printing can be done in a number of ways and variables. These include the size of the poster, the design, the color to be used and your budget. Today, poster printing uses different printing technology – from traditional spot color methods to sophisticated digital on demand printing.

There are several printing technologies you can choose from. If you need to print large posters in small quantities, you can use a large format inkjet printer. Although this printer is slow, they are good for small print jobs. After printing, you may want to laminate the poster to protect them from wear and tear and other elements that may destroy the poster. Lamination can also enhance the color so make it a point to include lamination in your printing job. If, however, you need to print a few hundred posters, you have to look for digital color printers that can do the job for you. But if what you need to get printed are thousands of copies of posters, perhaps it is a good idea to look for commercial printing shops. When you do your print job with professionals, you can choose with several colors, fonts, sizes and design from their choices. There are also hundred of printing presses available both offline and online, so it’s not a bad idea to check out first all the printing shops to find the right printer for you.

Needless to say, you can always use your desktop printer for your short print runs, but the size limitation is always a disadvantage. Hence, if you want crisp and quality posters you have to consider professional printing companies as a better option to self printing. If you do decide to avail of professional printing services, make it a point to leave plenty of time to get your posters printed. Find out how long the print job will take to help you decide when to get the printing started. Additionally, if you haven’t tried professional services before; it may be in your best interest to try getting some quotes first. This way you can be sure to get quality print jobs at competitive prices. Nonetheless, do not always look after the cost but look at the quality. After all, quality will be remembered better than the price. Remember to make service and quality a priority over price and if you do this you will emerge ahead of the game. So factor these things carefully.

Eye Allergies Types

Allergic conjunctivitis is divided into several subtypes depending on the nature of the allergen. Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, vernal conjunctivitis, perennial allergic conjunctivitis, atopic keratoconjunctivitis, medication reactions, contact lens allergy, giant papillary conjunctivitis, contact eye allergies and toxic papillary reactions are some of the most common type of eye allergies.

Seasonal Allergic Conjunctivitis: Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis as the name suggests are eye allergies caused during the particular season of a year. In it the eyes become red, watery and itchy. Persons affected also have burning sensation and eyelid swelling. During the summer season, it is caused due the exposure to grass and different types of tree pollen. In the fall, it is caused mainly due to the exposure to weed pollen. Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis is sometimes referred as ‘hay fever eyes or hay fever conjunctivitis or allergic rhinoconjunctivitis.’ An estimated 25% of American population is affected by seasonal allergic conjunctivitis.

Topical antihistamine, topical decongestants and mast cell stabilizers are the ideal treatments. An ophthalmologist should be consulted, if there is a decrease in vision or excessive pain or thick discharge,

Vernal Conjunctivitis: Vernal conjunctivitis is a severe form of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis and is mainly seen in children and youngsters. In it the eye become itchy, red and watery and develops pain. The eyes become sticky due to a discharge and are quite hard to open. The pain intensifies when opening the eyes after sleeping. The inner membranes of the eyelids swell and conjunctiva has change in appearance. Vernal conjunctivitis should be treated immediately as it can lead to corneal damage.

Topical antihistamines, mast cell stabilizers, and low dose topical steroids are the most effective form of treatment. The occurrence of the allergy is more common during late spring, when dry and dusty conditions prevail. Using sunglasses can be very helpful.

Perennial Allergic Conjunctivitis: Perennial allergic conjunctivitis occurs throughout the year and can be caused by both indoor and outdoor allergens. The main causes are house dust mites, pet dander and several other indoor allergens. In it the eyes become mildly itchy, watery and red.

Atopic keratoconjunctivitis: Atopic keratoconjunctivitis is one of the most severe forms of eye allergies. People with eczema are more prone to it. Continuous itching and dry eyes are the common symptoms, which is followed by blurred vision. Atopic keratoconjunctivitis, also referred as eczema eyes, if not treated can lead to corneal swelling and conjunctival scarring. This form of eye allergy is quite rare and is seen mainly in older people.

Apart from airborne allergens, atopic keratoconjunctivitis can be caused by common food substances. Topical antihistamines, mast cell stabilizers and short term use of steroids are the ideal treatment. This type of allergy should be treated immediately as there have been rare cases which have led to blindness.

Medication Reactions: Eye allergies can be caused by the intake of certain medicines. Conjunctival swelling and itching are the common reactions. The reactions occur immediately and can vary from mild to severe. Anesthetics, bacitracin, topical penicillin, and sulfacetamide are some of the medicines which can trigger eye allergies.

Eye Allergies

When life had begun to appear on earth, one of the first things to develop was the eyes. The importance of eyes for the survival of any species on the earth can be gauged from this fact. The defense mechanisms put up by the body to protect eyes are quite striking. It includes the eyelids, eyelashes and the conjunctiva, which covers the eyeball. In spite of all this defense mechanism of the body, eyes continue to be one of the most sensitive organs in the human body and are always open to the attack of airborne allergens.

Tears continuously keep the eyes clean but are ineffective when dealing with allergens. An allergy occurs due to the immune response of the body to a foreign particle. Most of the time an allergy is caused by the overreaction of the body. In the eyes, the allergic reaction occurs to the conjunctiva – a transparent membrane covering the eyeball and the under surface of the eyelid. Dust, mold, pet dander and tree pollen are some of the most common allergens. If you are allergic to a particular substance, and when your eyes come into contact with the substance, it will kick start an allergic reaction.

It is estimated that more 50 million Americans suffer from various type of allergies. In it, majority of the people suffer from eye allergies. People with allergic rhinitis or atopic dermatitis or strong family history of allergy are more prone to have eye allergies.

Causes of Eye Allergies

An allergic reaction to the conjunctiva is popularly known as allergic conjunctivitis or ‘pink eye.’ It varies from soft irritation of the eyes to severe itching, which leads to corneal scaring. Direct contact with the allergen is the main cause of eye allergies. The contact can happen through air, hands and from materials used to rub the eyes.

Pollens, spores, pet dander, hair, dust, grass, mold, weeds, certain plants, nail polish, certain medicines and secretions like saliva are some of the most common allergens. The conjunctiva when comes into contact with an allergen produces a chemical called histamine, which causes the symptoms associated with eye allergies.

Cigarette smoke, wind, perfumes, air pollution, diesel exhaust also creates irritation to the conjunctiva but this is not included in eye allergies.

Symptoms of Eye Allergies

Itching is the most important symptom of eye allergy. Redness, watery discharge, swelling of the eyeball, tearing, burning sensation, pain while opening eyelids after sleep, blurred vision, pus formation and the feeling of an alien body in the eye are some of the common symptoms. People wearing contact lens will have discomfort in wearing it. Eye allergies mostly affect both the eyes.

Dry eye and tear duct obstruction are sometimes confused as eye allergies. These two types of ailments have similar symptoms to eye allergies. Conjunctivitis can also be caused by bacteria and viruses.

Conclusion

Eye allergies rarely cause vision impairment. Itching is the most vital symptom of allergic eyes. Although most of the eye allergies are not dangerous, persistent eye allergies should be treated and it is wise to administer drugs after consulting and ophthalmologist.

Eye Care After a Lasik Procedure

A person that is considering a Lasik procedure to improve their vision has two major responsibilities: selecting the best surgeon possible for their budget, and understanding and keeping up with eye care after the Lasik operation is done. Most Lasik procedures go very smoothly, and more than 90% of the patients are happy with their improved vision and have no permanent side effects. Part of this success is due to good care at home once the Lasik procedure is complete.

The first step in having the best care after a Lasik procedure is to understand exactly what is directed by the Lasik physician. The prospective Lasik patient should be given a good understanding of the entire process when they first visit a Lasik center to interview the physician and the staff. On the day of the procedure, a member of the staff should very carefully go over exactly what steps should be done to encourage optimal eye health and healing after the Lasik operation.

One thing that the patient should ask is what side effects are to be expected directly after the Lasik procedure, how long they should last, and which symptoms should be promptly told to the Lasik physician or member of the staff. A number of symptoms, such as fluctuating vision or halos around lights, are to be expected and are not a cause of worry. Ask the staff about any postoperative symptoms that are unclear, to make sure that they are thoroughly understood.

Each Lasik physician has their own recommended procedures for their patients, but here is a list of typical suggestions that most Lasik centers recommend. First, get some sleep as soon as possible after the Lasik procedure is done. This gives a great boost to the healing process. Second, avoid any contact, bumping, or rubbing of the eyes for at least five days after the Lasik procedure. Most Lasik centers have some kind of eye guards to wear at night to prevent patients from rubbing their eyes in their sleep.

Third, try to avoid eyestrain for some days after the Lasik procedure. It is tempting to try to read all of the signs and words that were previously blurry, but avoid this temptation at least for the large part. If any light sensitivity or glare is noticed, wear dark sunglasses for several days until this problem resolves itself. Some common Lasik side effects are temporary halos around lights, especially when viewed at night, but this is not a problem to be concerned with.

It is very important to keep the eyes well lubricated in the days following a Lasik operation. Every Lasik physician will give eye drops to help this, and patient should be especially aware of this before going to sleep. A Lasik procedure may increase eye dryness temporarily, and during sleep this may make the eyelid stick slightly to the eye. When the patient wakes up, opening the eyelid is equivalent to rubbing the eye. The physician should be notified if this happens, for there are other varieties of eye drops that will solve this problem.

Taking these simple steps will give nearly all Lasik patients an easy postoperative experience without any problems.

Exchange Rates

Keeping an eye on currency exchange rates is essential when traveling if staying within a budget or if just not wasting money is of concern to you at all. What does exchange rate mean? Typically, using the US dollar as a guide, other currencies would be worth more or less than a dollar for exchange of value. For instance, a Canadian dollar might be worth 85 percent of an American dollar, or 85 cents. Then when comparing a US dollar to the British pound, it a pound might be worth two US dollars. The fluctuating exchange rate means that, depending on market conditions, one day a pound might be worth two dollars, and the next day a pound might be worth two and a half dollars, and the next day worth one dollar and ninety cents.

A currency will be either free floating or pegged. A pegged currency is fixed by the government relative to the value of another currency. For example, the Hong Kong dollar in the 1980’s was fixed or pegged relative to the US dollar and always worth a set percentage of the currency it was pegged to. A free floating currency is allowed to fluctuate in value relative to all the other currencies on the foreign exchange market. When discussing currency people also refer to the nominal exchange rate, and the real exchange rate. The nominal rate is the rate at which a currency of one country can be traded for the currency of another. The real rate is the rate at which goods and services of one country can be traded for the goods and services of another. If, for example, the price of a product increases by ten percent in the US and there is a ten percent appreciation in the Canadian economy against US currency, the price of the product would remain constant for Canadians despite the US price increase. This is of course assuming that no tariffs are involved.

As a practical matter exchange rates will change from country to country and can be used to make travel and tourism more attractive in certain countries at certain times, so if there are several countries you’d like t visit and you have a flexible schedule, keep an eye on the exchange rates. If a person is a visitor in New York City it is easy to see how people in other countries follow this rule. At certain times the city of New York will be flooded with visitors from Germany, France, the UK, or Japan. The reason for this is quite simple. When the exchange rate favors the Japanese or the Europeans, then visiting America becomes much cheaper for them than at other times. If for instance, one thousand Euros, due to a favorable exchange rate, will purchase twelve hundred Euros in value, then they have a net twenty percent gain and a twenty percent cash incentive to visit the US. In recent years this exchange rate has usually worked in favor of Europeans, but in years past it worked in favor of Americans. For instance, before the Euro became the standard currency of Europe, Italy used lira, Germany the deutsche mark, Switzerland the Swiss franc, Austria the schilling, and France the French franc. In the early 1980’s the exchange rate was five French francs to the dollar, two and a half Swiss francs to the dollar, one thousand lira to the dollar, and two and a half schillings to the dollar on average. The German mark was fluctuating, anywhere from 1.7 marks to the dollar to 2.5 marks to the dollar, so when the dollar was worth 2.5 marks Americans would be ahead to trade in their dollars for marks. When the rate was 1.7 they were better off not spending German marks.

Keeping an eye on exchange rates will always benefit the traveler. Even if you are just crossing the border to visit our neighbors to the North in Canada or the South in Mexico, knowing what the normal value of the other nation’s currency is, and planning your trip for when the fluctuation is in your favor will increase spending power.

El Careyes Beach Resort In Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Firstly fly into Manzanilla and not Puerta Villarta because it is closer. You might want to rent a car here to give you a bit more freedom of movement during your stay at the fabulous El Careyes Beach Resort .

First of all, if this resort is not what you expected then it is your own fault for not doing your research. The El Careyes Beach Resort is not a place for people wanting night life and excitement, but it is a place for you if you enjoy good old fashioned service, and a bit of pampering. You will therefore appreciate that El Careyes does not come cheap, but can you think of anything of quality that does!!

It’s a luxury resort with big beds, big bathtubs – some of them are really huge. But, the key is the private beach, restaurant outside and big beds facing the ocean where you can relax and fall asleep after a few drinks and a good meal.

We stayed in the ocean view suite and had a very large room with a hot tub on the balcony, and this was just the best place to enjoyi a nice sunset. The rooms were cleaned twice a day and the bed was turned down every night, some nights a nice gift was left on the bed for us to keep. Overall the rooms were clearly above average and the bed, huge and comfortable.

The service is what makes this resort so good. The staff seemed to know us by name almost immediately, and they had this knack of being invisible but always there when we wanted drinks or food.

Because the resort is quite remote, and not near any large towns, that can make it a little difficult if you like to eat out, but it has to be said if you wanted something that wasn’t on the menu, then that didn’t seem to be a problem for the kitchen.

You could venture out to a little fish hut close to the hotel where the food was excellent, the fish extremely fresh, and drinks remarkably cheap, and next to it is a small open bar, which has music, bonfires, and late night drinks, so try it out

The bottom line is, if you are looking for an amazing small secluded resort that will treat you like royalty, where there is not much to do other than sit by the pool while enjoying a few drinks, this is the place for you

Educate Yourself

It might be the case that you are tired of wearing glasses, or you believe that it cramps your style. You also don’t want to use contact lenses, in order to avoid infection or inflammation due to overuse. In such a scenario, you are likely to consider LASIK eye surgery, which is one of the most prevalent vision correction procedures. And therefore, you require some basic LASIK education, in order to get a clear picture of what you can expect from LASIK if you want to know whether you should do eye laser surgery.

If the light rays don’t focus on the retina (light-sensing cells), the image you see is blurry. This is termed as refractive error, and may be caused due to an irregularly shaped cornea. LASIK surgery involves carving of the cornea in order to give it the perfect shape, thereby making light rays focus on the retina. LASIK surgery employs a high-precision laser, named Excimer, which is an ultraviolet chemical laser.

Scads of people have undergone LASIK, and most procedures have been successful. But as with any surgery, LASIK has associated risks and complications. However, LASIK has a relatively low complication rate, between 1% and 5%, which is among the lowest in the eye surgery field. Another trivia from the chapter on LASIK education is that LASIK may not result in perfect vision. That is, not all patients achieve a 20/20 vision.

If you suffered from myopia and have undergone LASIK as a corrective procedure, you would still require reading glasses (for near vision) in your late 40s. LASIK is an irreversible procedure, and most insurance companies do not cover LASIK surgery. Therefore, make sure that your surgery is performed by an experienced ophthalmologist. Also note that only eye MDs (ophthalmologists) are permitted to perform LASIK surgery.

Now that you are aware of the ins and outs of LASIK surgery, decision making is much easier. Have a discussion with an experienced ophthalmologist. It might be the case that you could very well forego the surgery. But if need be, LASIK is a superlative option to correct your vision.

Eagle Eyes Sunglasses

Eagle Eyes sunglasses are designed to block blue light as well as the Ultraviolet rays of the sun. These sunglasses offer you the ultimate protection for your eyes. The Eagle Eyes sunglasses not only give you protection, but they also help to enhance your vision on foggy days as well. This doesn’t mean that if you have a vision problem, Eagle Eyes can fix it for you without a prescription. It means that the technology in these sunglasses helps you see better in different light conditions.

When you first put on the Eagle Eyes sun glasses, it seems as if your surroundings get brighter. This might make you think that the sunglasses are no good. However, in this kind of light, your eyes are comfortable and you don’t need to squint. The Eagle Eyes sunglasses all have the Polarized Selective transmission in the lenses to block blue and violet light, but still let other colors from the spectrum get through.

Unlike ordinary sun glasses, those from Eagle Eyes do not use dark lenses to indiscriminately block different colors. Eagle Eyes sunglasses try to mimic the lenses in the eyes of hawks and eagles to bring you the best possible clarity when you are wearing them. This doesn’t mean that it will look as if you have the eyes of an eagle, but it will certainly feel like it when you wear Eagle Eyes sun glasses.

With Eagle Eyes sunglasses, scenes appear to be more vivid. This is because the lenses in the Eagle Eyes sun glasses enhance the harmless colors, such as red, orange and green, but neutralize harmful blue and violet to appear gray. The unique eye protection you get from the Eagle Eyes line of sunglasses offers you 100% blockage of UV rays.

Have you ever noticed that while sunglasses help you see things clearly outside during the day, when you take them off inside, it is difficult to see at first? Well, with Eagle Eyes sunglasses, you won’t have this problem. Because these sunglasses are so comfortable on your eyes, even when you enter a darkened room, you don’t have to wait for your eyes to adjust to the light. You can have prescription lenses in the Eagle Eyes sun glasses or you can buy clip on sunglasses that fit over your regular glasses. Now how much more convenient can you have it?

Eagle Eyes sunglasses, there is no better.

Dry Eyes And Contacts

If you have dry eyes, contact lenses may be a nightmare. With healthy eyes, a very thin layer of tears will always form under the contact lens. When this layer starts to dry out however, the lens will begin to feel dry. Dry eyes from contact can be very irritating, uncomfortable, and lead you to try to squinch or rub your eyes to seek relief.

Even though contact lenses are indeed a cause of dry others, there are other causes as well, one of which being your natural ability to produce years. Some people will produce less tears than others, which can indeed be a problem when wearing contact lenses. As you get older, the tears that you are able to produce will begin to decrease.

The environment is another cause. If you work in a factory or area that is over heated, or exposed to dust or smoke, your eyes will start to dry out. The more your eyes are exposed to these types of situations, the more dry they will become. After a few hours, you may find yourself having to remove your contacts due to the dryness becoming so irritating.

There are however, some types of contact lenses that can contribute to dryness as well. A majority of contact lenses are made of water and polymers, most being more than 50% water. Even though the contact is moist and may feel comfortable in your eye, the water will start to evaporate from the contact lens as you wear it. When this happens, the contact will draw moisture from the tears in your eyes, which results in dryness. If the contact lens contains a lot of water, then it is almost guaranteed to lose moisture throughout the day.

With dryness being a common problem for most people who wear contact lenses, manufacturers are always working to create contacts that will remain comfortable throughout the day. Dry eyes are the most common reason for irritation, and the main reason as to why people decide to give up contacts and just go with glasses to correct their vision.

Out of all the different contacts on the market, Acuvue Oasys are among the most popular. Although they are relatively new, they are specifically made for those who work or live in dry environments. These contacts contain a special agent for re-wetting purposes, which enables the contact lens to remain moist, even if your eyes aren’t producing enough tears. They are daily wear contacts, and should be soaked in solution at night and replaced every two weeks or so.

Even though there are other contact lenses out there that are great for dry eyes, Acuvue are considered to be the best brand. No matter which type of contact lens you wear, you should always take care of them. You should always clean them once removed, and soak them in solution at night. This way, you’ll remove the protein build up and ensure that you are putting clean contact lenses back into your eyes.

Even though dry eyes are very common, you can always help to rectify the situation by using right pair of contacts. You can also get re-wetting or saline drops as well, to put in your eyes when they start to feel dry. These drops are the preferred way of dealing with dry and irritable eyes, as they help to produce enough moisture for comfort. You can buy re-wetting or saline drops at most department stores – and they cost a little of nothing.

Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry Eye Syndrome is a very common phenomenon causing lots of problems to millions of people all over the world. It is caused due to the deteriorating quality of the tear lining. A physically fit and healthy eye would be covered by a tear film. It is that fluid which remains between the blinks making your eyes wet.

The tear lining helps to keep your eyes free from infection and bacteria. It gives the eye a clean and clear vision without any irritation. The tear lining removes the dirt and any other dust particles that cause friction in your eyes.

When the productivity of fluid from your tear glands gets lessened, it leads to irritation and dry spots on the cornea – a reason for a weakened vision. It can easily be induced by various polluting factor in the environment.

Old age is also one of the factors leading to dry eye syndrome. Due to the increasing age factor our body produces less oil resulting in less fluid production. A very common phenomena among women who tend to have drier skin than men. This oil deficiency affects your tear film.

Other reasons like hot, dry or windy climate, high altitude, air-conditioning, cigarette smoke and air pollution can cause dry eyes. You can face this problem while reading or working in front of the computer for long hours. A good relief would be by blinking your eyes to keep in wet and healthy.

Wearing contact lenses also creates dryness in your eyes. Some particular medications, thyroid problems, Vitamin A deficiency, diseases like Parkinson’s and Sjogren’s can also be reason for dry eyes. A hormonal change during the time of menopause creates issues for women.

You can keep an ‘eye’ on certain signs and symptoms, which can be easily detected if suffering from dry eye syndrome. Itching, burning, irritation, redness, tiredness of eye, mucus surrounding your eye and many more can are the known signs.

Fatty acids are very important for our eyes as well as body. It helps in producing the right amount of energy for your body as well as maintaining good mental health. This deficiency of fatty acids can be taken through your diet.

Essentially there are two categories Omega 3 and Omega 6 which should be taken in 4:1 ratio. Consumption of almonds, walnuts including their oil, seeds of sesame, sunflower and their oil is very good. A diet which has borage oil, grape seed oil, primrose oil, soybean oil, whole grains can be very useful to avoid dryness in your eye.

Omega 3 can be found in cold water fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines and herring. Fresh vegetables, flaxseeds, walnuts and canola oil would help to prevent any dry eye syndrome.

Does Age Matter

It’s true that LASIK can eliminate a person’s dependency on eyeglasses and contact lenses. It can correct a variety of refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. However, LASIK surgery is not for everyone. There are certain conditions that might preclude LASIK in case of a particular patient. Age is one such factor taken into account when determining whether a patient is a viable LASIK candidate or not.

It is a known fact that people experience a constant change in vision throughout adolescence and sometimes well until the mid to late 20s. That is, the refraction stabilizes typically around the age of 18. For myopic people, the benchmark is somewhere between the mid to late 20s. Undergoing LASIK prior to that age is nothing but a futile attempt to achieve enhanced visual acuity, since the patient will nevertheless require another surgery when the prescription stabilizes.

A preoperative examination conducted prior to the age of 18 might result in incorrect measurements, and consequently, an appropriate correction via LASIK. Patients suffering from a higher degree of myopia or astigmatism should defer the surgery a wee bit longer than others – normally until the age of 21 or so. In essence, you must have had a stable prescription for at least two years, and then only you should plan to undergo LASIK surgery. If you wish to go for custom LASIK, the minimum age is the same as that for conventional LASIK.

There is no upper age limit for LASIK surgery. Even a 50 or 60 year old person may opt for LASIK. The point is that LASIK can very well correct the refractive error of a myopic patient at any stage of the patient’s life, provided the patient’s eyes are otherwise healthy. That is, LASIK will impart clear distant vision to any person irrespective of the age. However, age related deterioration of the vision may still occur. For instance, almost every person suffers from presbyopia (or short arm syndrome) beyond the age of 40. Presbyopia entails the loss of accommodation power of the lens. Hence, people typically require reading glasses after the age of 40.

If you find a LASIK surgeon that you are confident about you will be able to find more information about LASIK laser eye surgery.

Do I Really Need Lasik Eye Surgery

The cornea is a part of the eye that helps focus light to create an image on the retina. It works in much the same way that the lens of a camera focuses light to create an image on film. The bending and focusing of light is also known as refraction. Usually the shape of the cornea and the eye are not perfect and the image on the retina is out-of-focus (blurred) or distorted.

These imperfections in the focusing power of the eye are called refractive errors. There are three primary types of refractive errors: myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Persons with myopia, or nearsightedness, have more difficulty seeing distant objects as clearly as near objects. Persons with hyperopia, or farsightedness, have more difficulty seeing near objects as clearly as distant objects.

Astigmatism is a distortion of the image on the retina caused by irregularities in the cornea or lens of the eye. Combinations of myopia and astigmatism or hyperopia and astigmatism are common. Glasses or contact lenses are designed to compensate for the eye’s imperfections. Surgical procedures aimed at improving the focusing power of the eye are called refractive surgery.

In LASIK surgery, precise and controlled removal of corneal tissue by a special laser reshapes the cornea changing its focusing power.

Most patients are very pleased with the results of their refractive surgery. However, like any other medical procedure, there are risks involved. That’s why it is important for you to understand the limitations and possible complications of refractive surgery.

Before undergoing a refractive procedure, you should carefully weigh the risks and benefits based on your own personal value system, and try to avoid being influenced by friends that have had the procedure or doctors encouraging you to do so.

It is important for you to read the patient handbook provided to your doctor by the manufacturer of the device used to perform the refractive procedure. Your doctor should provide you with this handbook and be willing to discuss his/her outcomes.

Disposable Lenses Can Cause A Contact Lens Eye Infection

There have been many various eye infection issues with contact lenses in the recent years; sometimes it is blamed on specific products, but mostly it is lack of good hygiene. There are some major issues that specifically have to do with people who wear soft contact lenses. Those people are definitely at a heightened risk for a serious contact lens eye infection.

One specific such infection is called Fusarium Kerititis. Although this contact lens eye infection is uncommon, it is definitely a cause for concern. The major symptoms of this particular infection involving contact lens wearers include, but are not limited to: blurred vision, redness, pain and extreme tearing or discharge. It can be so serious that the infection could cause total vision loss if not immediately treated.

Problem-Solving

If you wear contact lenses and begin feeling eye discomfort, remove your lenses. If you flush them but continue feeling pain, or see signs of an infection involving your contact lens usage, go to an eye doctor right away. If you have a contact lens eye infection, you do not want to delay treatment because eye infections are significant.

People who wear disposable daily lenses seem to have lowest risk of contact lens eye infection. However, anyone using lenses has a higher risk of getting an eye infection if they leave their lenses in when they go to bed, do not disinfect their storage cases, do not wash their hands before handling the contact lenses, or smoke.

Strangely, the risk of a contact lens eye infection was three times more likely when the lenses were purchased over the Internet. In order to avoid a contact lens eye infection, it is very important to know where your lenses have been. The ones sold on the Internet are typically mishandled, which can be a greater risk for this particular type of dangerous infection. It is recommended to purchase the lenses from at least a well-known store where a contact lens eye infection is less likely.

Reportedly, there is now a material called a sulfoxide hydrogel polymer that prevents a contact lens eye infection through enhancing the level of water in the eye and decreasing a problematic protein buildup. They claim it will enable contact lenses to be more comfortable when worn for long periods of time and successfully prevent bacterial buildup in the eye. It is the bacterial buildup that can lead to a contact lens eye infection.

Disaster Recovery

As the Vice President of Operations for an online retailer of contact lenses, I am used to the potential problems related to doing business on the World Wide Web. Like any other online retailer, we have a responsibility to our customers to maintain their personal and payment information with the strictest of confidence and within regulatory guidelines mandated by our government. Security is a top priority, as it should be for any business who, by the very nature of the marketplace, exposes itself to the potential hazards of doing business in cyberspace. With so many opportunities for things to go wrong, businesses such as mine must take a proactive approach to avoid falling victim to an ever-increasing variety of threats.

Recently, a virus infiltrated our system through a disk brought in by an employee. It worked it’s way onto our database in no time at all, and the potential for serious restriction of our ability to maintain functional operational status was obvious. While we have administrative and IT security safeguards to protect us from things of this nature, our precautions were inadequate to avoid this particular problem. Luckily, we had instituted a disaster recovery plan some years earlier that allowed us to rid our databanks of the virus without any loss of data, even the data collected on the day in question.

For me, this was an eye opening event. My previous thoughts on disaster recovery were limited to external events that might pose a potential risk. Despite all our efforts to the contrary, we were exposed and vulnerable. It wasn’t the things that we worked on daily to maintain security that protected our company, but a plan of action conceived years earlier that had all but been forgotten. I now realize that there is so much more to disaster recovery than I previously thought. We were lucky in this instance, but now I can’t help but think of what might have happened had we not been prepared.
